I did intend to write some stories about… Ants! Our house is sort of a regular meeting ground for ants from all sides. We have some in the front balcony, and some in the back balcony but their favourite place is of course, the kitchen. The ones in the kitchen must be boring their way through Tupperware as I type. The ants in the balcony are chewing on my lone Tulsi plant. The ants out in the back are just having a little party in the dustbin.

A friend called today and we spent a good twenty minutes talking mostly about our ants. Ooh dal? My ants ate through 5 kilos of rice. Mine found their way into a huge box of Muesli stored in Tupperware. But I find ants in my water sometimes. Ok, you win. But have you tried neem leaves? Those seem to work. Have you tried lakshman rekha? No, I only have hit chalk. How do you keep them out? I don’t. I’ve just made peace with eating rice garnished with little steamed ants. But where do they get in from? That doesn’t really matter. What do you do about it? I just buy little bags of everything just so I don’t have to throw away much of there’s a new infestation.

We seem to talk about ants the way clueless parents do about bratty kids. You know, the kind of conversations that sound like this. My kids won’t eat their veggies. Oh, I know what you feel. I couldn’t just get mine to eat their vitamin enriched, iron fortified, organic, ethically sourced from Fiji, packaged at source, made by workers listening to Bach in their factories, granola bars.

Random post? I know. Just getting back into the groove.

That’s all folks!
