I came across a rather interesting article today. It’s about how aliens may have better relations with God than we do ourselves.
In May Father Jose Funes, director of the Vatican Observatory, told the newspaper L’Osservatore Romano that if aliens existed, they might not need redemption. Humanity might be the cosmos’s “lost sheep,” the one out of a hundred in Jesus’s parable that wandered and needed the special attention. “If there are also other intelligent beings,” Funes explained, “It’s not a given that they need redemption. They might have remained in full friendship with their creator.”
So, is there a single God for the entire universe? Does each different planet have a different set of moral rules? Does God treat all planets equally? Does redemption matter to all living creatures? Would aliens not invade us if they realized that we all have the same God?
Finally, could it be that those of other religious beliefs who do not believe in redemption are already redeemed?
Questions that don’t really keep me awake at night…
