Extraterrestrials and God

I came across a rather interesting article today. It’s about how aliens may have better relations with God than we do ourselves.

In May Father Jose Funes, director of the Vatican Observatory, told the newspaper L’Osservatore Romano that if aliens existed, they might not need redemption. Humanity might be the cosmos’s “lost sheep,” the one out of a hundred in Jesus’s parable that wandered and needed the special attention. “If there are also other intelligent beings,” Funes explained, “It’s not a given that they need redemption. They might have remained in full friendship with their creator.”

So, is there a single God for the entire universe? Does each different planet have a different set of moral rules? Does God treat all planets equally? Does redemption matter to all living creatures? Would aliens not invade us if they realized that we all have the same God?

Finally, could it be that those of other religious beliefs who do not believe in redemption are already redeemed?

Questions that don’t really keep me awake at night…

To All My Other Blogs

Simbly Bored has been around for quite  bit of time now. But along the way I started and abandoned many other blogs. There was a blog dedicated to all the forwards I ever got in my mail. There were some interesting posts on that one but it grew stale after a while. After that came another blog that I used purely for indulging my senses. It was called drool maal. The name is quite self explanatory. I spent some time trying to chronicle all the books I ever read. But that one was such a disaster I deleted the blog. There was another one that I keep posting on from time to time. It’s called my scrapbook. But the posts are really sporadic. And the blog is more for me than an audience…

The one blog that I wish didn’t have to die is Marriage Market. It means a lot to me. It let me vent out a lot of thoughts that would otherwise go unexpressed. It’s hard for me to continue but I can think of a few friends who would relate to the blog and who I was a couple of years ago.

I love blogging and I love how good it feels to write something that someone I hardly know relates to. Simbly Bored has been so good to me. May it live long. :-)

To Coffee!

Sluggish mornings in college when I hated going to class. Going down to the mess, taking two small steel tumblers, mixing a spoon of instant bru coffee, a spoon of sugar and filling the little steel glass with hot milk from the steel drum, doing the coffee mixing thing pouring it from a height from one glass to another till there was a little foam on top and the temperature was just right… And then, I was ready for everything. Including a class full of giggling gult females who wore flowers to college.

Sitting in a small pastry shop with my boyfriend. Drinking an espresso with a bit of sugar just the way he liked it. I learned to drink it that way too. And enjoyed it.

The vending machine at work on long nights of endless code, the milk and black coffee dispensed in the pantry, the long conversations on the balcony between code discussing nothing in particular and bitching about the boss in general…

Coffee at Barista. Shared with WW. Coffee on the rocks the way he drank it. The cold coffee, the hot lattes, running away from office to get coffee at the nearest Barista, subsidized Barista coffee during my second year at work…

Coffee at Coffee Day with friends. Laughing when Satya got served the caffeine kick and me the hot chocolate instead of the other way around…

Coffee with my husband. Extra sweet now. Just the way he likes it. Coffee my mom in law makes. Just the right proportions. Coffee mom makes. The only one who asks me how I want to drink it :)

It’s such a comfort. To just hold a steaming mug in my hands, inhale the fragrance, sip it slowly watching the rain or the snow… Drinking some black with sugar when school gets rough. Drinking a mocha when I’m in a bad mood. Drinking a latte when I pass through the library feeling cold. Coffee from the vending machine when I’m desperate enough… Just coffee. I love it!
